A Simple Trace Formula for Algebraic Modular Forms
نویسنده
چکیده
We derive an elementary formula for the trace of a Hecke operator acting on a space of algebraic modular forms, as a sum of character values. We describe explicit computations in the case of the unitary group U(4), allowing the determination of the eigenvalues of a certain Hecke operator. This produces numerical evidence for a U(2, 2) analogue of Harder’s conjecture, on congruences between Hecke eigenvalues modulo divisors of critical L-values.

Notes for a course given at the Second EU/US Summer School on Automorphic Forms on SINGULAR MODULI AND MODULAR FORMS
Singular moduli are the values of the modular j-function at the points in the upper halfplane that satisfy a quadratic equation. These values have been studied by number theorists since the 19 century. They are algebraic and generate class fields of imaginary quadratic fields. Both their norms and traces are integers. The work of Gross and Zagier in the 1980s gave explicit factorizations of the...
متن کاملOn Anticyclotomic Μ-invariants of Modular Forms
We prove the μ-part of the main conjecture for modular forms along the anticyclotomic Zp-extension of a quadratic imaginary field. Our proof consists of first giving an explicit formula for the algebraic μ-invariant, and then using results of Ribet and Takahashi showing that our formula agrees with Vatsal’s formula for the analytic μ-invariant.
متن کاملThe Eichler-Selberg Trace Formula for Level-One Hecke Operators
This paper explains the steps involved in the proof of the Eichler-Selberg Trace Formula for Hecke operators of level one. It is based on an appendix in Serge Lang’s Introduction to Modular Forms written by Don Zagier, though I also draw heavily from sections of Toshitsune Miyake’s Modular Forms and Xueli Wang’s and Dingyi Pei’sModular Forms with Integral and Half-Integral Weights. Section 2 su...
متن کاملIrreducible cuspidal representations with prescribed local behavior
Let G be a simple algebraic group defined over the global field k. In this paper, we use the simple trace formula to determine the sum of the multiplicities of the irreducible representations in the cuspidal spectrum of G, with specified local behavior at a finite set of places of k and unramified elsewhere. This sum is expressed as the product of the values of modified Artin L-functions at neg...
متن کاملSummer School entitled “Harmonic Analysis, the Trace Formula, and Shimura
The main goal of the School was to introduce graduate students and young mathematicians to three broad and interrelated areas in the theory of automorphic forms. Much of the volume is comprised of the articles of Arthur, Kottwitz, and Milne. Although these articles are based on lectures given at the school, the authors have chosen to go well beyond what was discussed there, in order to provide ...
